NBA columnist Peter Vecsey, writing yesterday on nypost.com, says the Bucks aren't looking for any new names if (and most likely when) they fire Larry Kryskowiak after the season ends tonight in Minnesota.
Vecsey writes, "Showing no onions or the ability to identify new head-coaching substance, the decision makers at Milwaukee, Memphis and Chicago are rounding up the same old suspects as replacements either because they're managing scared or they're appeasing ownership."
He cites a source that says, "John (new Bucks GM John Hammond) is considering either (Scott) Skiles or (Rick) Carlisle, no one else."
He also breaks the news that Hammond will hire Pistons director of basketball administration Jeff Weltman to help him rebuild the Bucks. Interestingly, he also notes that Weltman has ties to former NBA coach Larry Brown and that "they have spoken within the last 72 hours."
Skiles, for the record, left his head-coaching job with the Bulls at the end of 2007 when the Bulls were 9-16. He was a first round pick of the Bucks, as a player, in 1986. Carlisle, currently an ESPN analyst, left his job as executive vice-president of the Indiana Pacers in June 2007. For four seasons before that he compiled a 181-147 record as the Pacers head coach.
