1. Brewers hire Randolph to be their bench coach
Published: Nov. 8, 2008 - 6:11 p.m. - When he wasn't hired to manage the Brewers last month, Willie Randolph figured his chances of returning to Milwaukee were shot. But, he works in baseball, an industry where you never say "never." In an announcement that came as a surprise to almost everyone, including the former Mets manager himself, the Brewers tabbed Randolph to be the bench coach for manager Ken Macha.
2. Saturday Scorecard: As the sporting world turns...
Published: Nov. 1, 2008 - 4:46 p.m. - For the second time in six years, the Brewers tried to hire Ken Macha. This time, it worked. Dale Sveum was gone, but now it looks like he's back. Aaron Rodgers got paid big bucks, while Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila was shown the door.
3. Brewers select Macha as new manager
Published: Oct. 30, 2008 - 11:14 a.m. - Now that the World Series is over, the Brewers have moved quickly to name a new manager. Former Oakland skipper Ken Macha, who had been working for the Boston Red Sox broadcast team, will manage the team. A press conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Miller Park.
4. Sveum's plight a harsh reminder of reality in sports
Published: Oct. 21, 2008 - 05:24 a.m. - For fans, following a professional sports team is truly an affair of the heart. For the people who make a living in sports -- like former Brewers general manager Doug Melvin, owner Mark Attansio and recently rejected interim manager Dale Sveum -- it can be a cold, cruel and heartless business.
5. Help wanted: Experienced big-league manager
Published: Oct. 19, 2008 - 07:03 a.m. - Doug Melvin likes Dale Sveum. So did owner Mark Attanasio and the players. Despite a 7-5 finish and the franchise's first playoff berth since 1982, Melvin opted not to bring Sveum back as skipper in 2009 and is instead hoping to lure a manager with successful big-league experience.
6. Brenly seems to fit the bill as Brewers' next manager
Published: Oct. 18, 2008 - 4:54 p.m. - Based on the apparent criteria, the Brewers can halt their search for a new skipper right now. Cubs TV announcer Bob Brenly has it all: experience, a track record of post-season success, media savvy ... Still, it's not a slam-dunk. One of the only certainties in baseball is that the moves that seem logical, easy and obvious seldom work out that way.
7. Brewers to Dale Sveum: "Thanks, but no thanks."
Published: Oct. 17, 2008 - 7:55 p.m. - The Brewers announced a trio of moves tonight. They gave general manager Doug Melvin a three-year contract extension that will keep him in Milwaukee through 2012, removed Dale Sveum from consideration for the manager's job and dismissed hitting coach Jim Skaalen. Melvin continues his search for a manager and experience could be a key factor in the decision.
8. Saturday Scorecard: A very important free agent
Published: Oct. 11, 2008 - 2:23 p.m. - While Brewers fans continue to fantasize about the club signing CC Sabathia, another important free agent is hanging out at home in Hartland, waiting for the phone to ring. Pitching coach Mike Maddux's contract with the team is set to expire and -- depending what happens with the manager -- it's uncertain whether he will return to the club next season.
9. Brewers Notebook: Postseason power outage
Published: Oct. 6, 2008 - 08:19 a.m. - A punchless offense brought the Brewers' postseason to a screeching halt. Now, it's time to reevaluate what went wrong, what worked and who will be back next year when Milwaukee tries to take the next step towards a championship. At the top of the to-do list: extending general manager Doug Melvin's deal and deciding whether or not to retain Dale Sveum.
10. Mission unaccomplished for Suppan, Brewers
Published: Oct. 5, 2008 - 5:43 p.m. - When the Brewers signed veteran right-hander Jeff Suppan to a four-year, $42 million contract before the 2007 season, they were banking on his experience and reputation as a "big-game" pitcher. In one of the bigger games in 26 years, Suppan came up short and doomed the club to a season-ending 6-2 loss to Philadelphia.

11. Bush bails out Brewers with strong outing in Game 3
Published: Oct. 4, 2008 - 11:50 p.m. - George Bush bailed out Wall Street. With his team facing elimination, Dave Bush did the same for the Brewers. The right-hander allowed a run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings to keep the Brewers alive in the NLDS. The Game 3 start, though, was just another stop on a season-long odyssey for Bush.
12. Saturday Scorecard: History in the making
Published: Oct. 4, 2008 - 10:15 a.m. - Two games into their first playoff run in 26 years and facing the threat of elimination in Game 3 against Philadelphia, the Brewers found themselves talking about 1982. Though they respect franchise history, they'd like to forge an identity of their own. Bench coach Robin Yount, a key figure on the '82 team, wants to help.

Published: Sept. 27, 2008 - 7:53 p.m. - On the eighth anniversary of his gold-medal winning performance at the Sydney Olympics, Ben Sheets took the mound with a balky elbow and dug the Brewers into an early hole from which they could not escape. The Cubs won, 7-3, putting the Brewers in a tie for the National League wild-card heading into the final game of the season.
19. Gallardo's comeback performance boosts Brewers
Published: Sept. 26, 2008 - 12:02 a.m. - Five months after rupturing a ligament in his right knee, Yovani Gallardo returned to the mound in a do-or-die game and gave the Brewers four solid innings that set the stage for a pivotal 5-1 victory over Pittsburgh. Think Curt Schilling, but without the Boston-New York hype or the bloody sock.
20. Sabathia brings Brewers even in wild-card race
Published: Sept. 25, 2008 - 05:04 a.m. - Making his second consecutive start on short rest, Sabathia was downright masterful, allowing just a run on five hits in seven innings of work as the Brewers beat the Pirates, 4-2, in front of 31,164 towel-waving fans at Miller Park. The Brewers are now tied with New York for the National League wild card.

23. Brewers Notebook: Clinging to playoff hopes
Published: Sept. 22, 2008 - 05:02 a.m. - Even after a tumultuous start to September, the Brewers are just 1½ games behind the front-running Mets in the National League wild-card race. With six games to play, they'll need to win out if they want to play baseball in October.
